About the event
We heard about the changes owners John Wright and Richard Green are implementing, on and off the milking platform to reduce the business's overall environmental footprint (Plan Change 7 (2028) N-loss limits) while reducing expenses. We also showed how Strathconan Stream farmers have applied redox and LiDAR maps to improve understanding and prepare freshwater focused farm plans to rescue impacts of farming and past land clearance along the entire reach of the stream. Redox maps show reducing environments are dominant; which reflects low nitrates in water quality samples along much of the stream.
This event was jointly hosted and run by DairyNZ, Living Landscapes South Canterbury and the Upper Opihi-Opuha Catchment Group and included a family BBQ kindly sponsored by FMG and Temuka Transport from 5.30pm.
