Te Moana River
About the event
The River Rally was an opportunity for the community to discover the hidden treasures of the Te Moana River, hear the latest developments and connect with other local groups. Around 70 people came to Tracey and Andrew McKay’s property on the north branch of the Hae Hae Te Moana River, with recent rain doing little to dampen the spirits of the community initiative.
Living Landscapes representative Danette McKeown demonstrated how to use their Riparian Health Riparian Form in combination with eDNA. EOS Ecology (as part of Wai Connection Mid Canterbury) showed small groups how to test the water quality and carry out invertebrate sampling.
Most positively the community decided to form a catchment group following the day, so they can continue to work together to make the most of opportunities evident throughout the catchment. Read more about the Te Moana Catchment Group on the Catchment Groups Page.
